How many skincare products do I really need in the summer?

Have you already put away your winter wardrobe and are you looking for brighter clothes made of lightweight fabrics? It seems like a turning point when we really decide to move into a more active, lively, and vibrant half of the year.

How many times have you contacted us with the question of what to do with your skincare routine now that powerful and impactful campaigns are coming from all over the place, how important is sun protection and what now that you need to include products in your everyday life?  with SPF protection.

Since you probably already know by now that we are a messenger of natural cosmetics as much as possible, but still a voice of reason and passionate advocates of the findings of the profession that studies our skin in detail, we will try to provide a guide through summer care in a way that is reasonable, understandable and, above all, as simple as possible.

Tip #1:  There are many ways to protect your skin, including clothing and headgear. The latter are increasingly “in” or fashionable, if you will ;).

Let's take a concrete example, which is the most frequently described situation by our users.

Let's name our golden customer a random name, for example Polona.  Polona is 43 years old, she gets up at 5:30, at 5:38 (written on May 8, 2023) she is greeted by the rising sun through the bedroom window, which luckily has turned to the right side of the sky. With a smile and filled with some solar energy, she does stretching exercises, takes a shower, brushes her teeth, face and brushes her hair. Then she prepares breakfast, drinks her morning coffee or tea and goes to work at 7:15. In the worst case scenario, she walks 500 meters from the parking lot to work in the morning sun, arriving at her workplace at 8:30. She usually works in an air-conditioned office, the windows are equipped with blinds. When she finishes work at 5:00 PM, maybe even a minute later, she runs errands. She drives to the shopping center, where she buys everything she needs for her household needs, meets a friend for coffee or something similar, and then goes home. Treat yourself to some more time outdoors for recreation, gardening, or relaxing on the patio (in most of the warmer months, this means after or shortly before sunset).

According to our predictions, Polona spends the critical time, when UV radiation is strongest, indoors.

In this case, we would recommend the following daily care ritual for a Polish woman who does not have any special skin conditions.

In the morning:

  1. washing your face with a gentle cleansing gel that rinses off
  2. skin refreshment with tonic
  3. application of moisturizing serum and/or nourishing light cream
  4. application of nourishing liquid powder

Given the expected exposure to sunlight (including in the car and during short migrations from point A to point B), we would advise her to use a quality mineral SPF protection with a factor of 30. Products that are effective and follow the guidelines of natural cosmetics. If there is a longer exposure to the sun, the application is repeated after two hours. Since Polona is not exposed to sunlight otherwise, applying a natural SPF cream is not unnecessary.

Evening:

  1. removing makeup and SPF with cleansing milk
  2. using a cleansing gel for cleansing
  3. Refreshing the skin with a tonic
  4. applying moisturizer and/or facial oil with vitamin C

You probably already see what we mean. Of course, the situation is completely different if Polona is invited to a wedding on a Saturday in June, for example. In this case, she uses a light moisturizing serum and/or moisturizer in the morning, on which she applies an SPF cream that suits her in this combination. After a few minutes, she can apply her favorite nourishing loose powder on top of the SPF, and finish it with mineral powder makeup. If the celebration lasts longer than two hours, she makes sure to reapply SPF in the meantime and gently touch it up by reapplying nourishing loose powder. Another option is to avoid reapplying it on the face by wearing a headscarf and only refresh the protection on the rest of the body.

If you are wondering whether makeup with SPF protection is enough, our answer is an absolute NO. If you want protection of 30, you never apply enough makeup to actually provide this protection. Our care powders contain high concentrations of titanium and zinc oxide, but their purpose was never to protect against the sun, at least not at a level that is sufficiently safe. MOIKA natural makeup can be considered as complementary protection. For this reason, we strongly recommend that you apply SPF 30 factor under your care foundation when (or at least 30 minutes before) you are exposed to UV radiation, but wait 10 minutes between applications so that the SPF protection is fully absorbed and the foundation applies better.

The most important moments of summer skin care

  1. Drinking enough water or unsweetened herbal teas
  2. Peeling once a week
  3. SPF protection 30
  4. Skin moisturizing (tonic, moisturizing serums, light creams)
  5. sufficient cleansing of the skin with cleansing gels that are rinsed off (in the case of oily and acne-prone skin, even 3 times a day)
  6. skin regeneration
  7. Antioxidants; vitamin C, E and A in skin care products
  8. Consumption of vitamins A, E, C and beta-carotenoids
  9. nourishing masks ( Tip#2: yogurt and honey mixture )

The rule of summer is to prepare your skin for the sun, protect it, cleanse and exfoliate it sufficiently, and then take care of its regeneration. Keep in mind that in the warmer months you need lighter creams and lotions, and you can keep your luxurious care products in the refrigerator until next fall, where they will wait for you longer than on the bathroom shelves.

Here's a quick guide to our collection. We've selected the best summer skincare products based on your skin type or condition. It's up to you to listen to your skin and care for it in the way it will appreciate it most.
