Spring Skin Care: How to Awaken Your Body, Beat Fatigue, and Get a Glowing Complexion

In recent years, the mild winters have lulled us a bit. Even in Ljubljana, they are more bearable than in years past; you no longer have to climb a hill for the sun or drive to Kranjska gora or Trojan. Winter holidays no longer mean sledding marathons and cable cars installed on every major slope, where woolen hats with tassels are everywhere and winter joy spreads far and wide. Everything is changing, perhaps much faster than nature can keep up with our internal rhythm, which once guided us beautifully through the four seasons. The body has had time to adapt to the slowly changing conditions and our mood has followed suit. This year, we were surprised by two shipments of snow, and here in Kozjansko it started to fall just as these lines are being written. I was already grumbling to myself that winter is lasting too long... and that we will hardly see warm days and birdsong.

But this winter didn't drag on any longer than the ones we used to know - in fact, it was closer to the real winters we used to know. But still, it seemed to me that it wouldn't let up. It was as if I had gotten used to it. Maybe I'd been spoiled by the mild winters of recent years, or maybe I'd accepted too quickly that spring would come earlier. When we were kids, waiting for the snow to melt was something normal - but now, when spring doesn't show up exactly according to my schedule, I'm getting impatient.

I found myself having a harder time getting up in the morning when I was still surrounded by cold grayness and damp air – the stubborn one that likes to stay a little longer here in Kozjansko. But then comes that first day, when the sun warms the back of the leaves and the fog lifts a little earlier than usual – and I feel a strange mixture of excitement and fatigue in my body. As if not only nature, but also I, should wake up from winter sleep. Do you ever feel like your body is breaking through the fog in spring – just like a road through a valley?

Spring rituals of awakening the body and skin

Just as nature gradually replaces the heavy winter clouds with the first buds and shoots, our bodies also need time to adjust. If you're feeling heavy, lacking energy, with dull and dry skin these days, you're in good company - that's how most people feel every year, including me.

1. Spring light affects energy and skin health

Longer days, more sun – it seems like we should suddenly have more energy. But in reality, biorhythms need a few weeks to adjust, as our internal processes are not as fast as the arrival of spring on the calendar. Don't look at the arrival of spring in terms of calendar spring. More than that, it is important to pay attention and notice what is really happening in nature. What is the weather like, how much humidity is in the air, whether the day is windy or sunny, and adjust your care accordingly.

🌞 What helps ? If you can, spend the first few minutes of the day in natural light , outside – either with a coffee on the terrace, or with a morning walk to the forest, meadow or park. The body responds to light better than any alarm clock. Take advantage of every sunny day to expose your skin to the first rays of spring and let your body and skin sense the awakening of warmth. If we are indoors all day, always at the same temperature and under artificial light, we do not even give our body and skin the opportunity to notice what is happening in nature.

2. Exercise for glowing skin and more energy

Nature is awakening and stretching – trees are spreading their branches, grass is rising, flowers are opening up to the sun. Why shouldn't we? Every movement , even if it's just a walk in your home garden or the nearest park, increases blood circulation and awakens the body .

🏃‍♀️ My spring habits

Every year, a morning walk along a forest path, watching the first leaves of the birch tree break through the ground, is a sign for me that winter is truly behind us. The first fresh leaves remind me that it's time to relieve the burden on my body - that is, more exercise, lighter food and a gentle transition in my skin care.

3. We sleep worse in spring and this also affects our skin

When the days are longer, we unintentionally sleep less – the evening light tricks us into staying awake longer, but our bodies aren’t necessarily ready for a shorter rest. If you notice that you’re more tired than usual, having trouble falling asleep, this could be a sign that your internal clock is still struggling to find balance. Listen to it and follow it. Your mood during the day will be noticeably lighter.

🛌 What helps? A simple evening ritual – warm herbal tea and a few minutes of silence before bed, your phone on airplane mode and no grudges from the day. Just as nature calms down before nightfall, so must our mind and body. Try to incorporate a new habit before bed – a gratitude ritual. Find at least one thing, person or action for which you are grateful. Don’t rummage through your memory too much and don’t think that we can only be grateful for grand gestures and expensive things. The first thing that comes to mind when you think of gratitude will be the right one. Try to stay in a feeling of gratitude for at least a few minutes.

4. Spring skin care: moisturizing, exfoliating and freshness

After the heavier winter creams, skin now needs more lightness, freshness and moisture. Moisturizing serums, lighter creams and gentle exfoliants help remove tired winter layers and prepare the skin for warmer days.

Gentle exfoliation – Grind oatmeal into powder and mix with Calendula Cleansing Milk and Orange Cleansing Gel . Prepare a thick consistency and apply to a damp face. Massage gently, then rinse well. Finish the cleansing with a spray, hydrolate or facial toner, then continue with your usual care steps.

Moisturizing serum – Always the right choice is Rosehip serum , which intensely moisturizes and regenerates the skin.

Lighter cream – If you used Chamomile with Yarrow cream for dry and sensitive skin in the winter, now try Orange Blossom , but if you used Mallow in the winter , for example, now reach for the light Mountain Rose .

We replace rich protective creams with lighter moisturizing emulsions. Rosehip serum and Chamomile with yarrow.

Spring transformation is not something that happens overnight – neither in nature nor in our bodies. If we take the time to gradually wake up, our skin will follow suit. Observe what is happening in nature , which changes from day to day, and adjust your skin care accordingly. If colder days appear again, there is nothing wrong with applying a more nourishing cream that you used in winter during these days. Always keep in mind that the beauty of your skin comes from within. Observe how the food and drink you consume affects the glow and purity of your skin. Pay attention to how stress affects not only your well-being, but also your skin and its fatigue. Skin care, moisturizing and using the right creams, serums and peels are like the cherry on top of the cake. The cherry is of course beautiful and provides shine, but don't forget the main ingredients.
